Massive blaze breaks out in London tower block as 60 firefighters respond (2026)

A massive fire broke out in a 13-story tower block in East London, prompting a swift response from 60 firefighters. The blaze, which erupted at a data center on Nutmeg Lane in Blackwall, E14, at around 4:52 am, was caused by a LED acid battery fire in the basement. The London Fire Brigade (LFB) confirmed that eight fire engines and approximately 60 firefighters were dispatched to the scene. The fire, which was brought under control by 06:43, destroyed a small section of the basement battery room, which housed around 200 LED acid batteries. The cause of the fire is currently under investigation. The LFB's 999 Control officers received the initial call at 04:52, and crews from multiple fire stations, including Poplar, Millwall, Plaistow, Stratford, East Ham, and East Greenwich, responded to the emergency. The scene was dramatic, with multiple fire engines and firefighters on the ground, and a section of the building illuminated by bright orange flames.
