According to the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), the Naira strengthened to N1,454.4123 per dollar on Friday. This is a noticeable improvement from the N1,456.0656 recorded the previous day, Thursday. This represents a daily appreciation of N1.66 per dollar in the official foreign exchange market.
But here's where it gets interesting: despite this single-day gain, the Naira has still lost ground overall. CBN data indicates a loss of N9 over the past eleven days. This highlights the volatility and ongoing challenges in the foreign exchange market.
Meanwhile, in the parallel market, the situation remained relatively stable. The Naira held steady at N1,490 per dollar on Friday, a rate that had been consistent since Monday, according to reports from Bureau De Change operators in Wuse Zone 4, Abuja. This difference between the official and black market rates is something many people watch closely, as it can reflect market sentiment and speculative activity.
And this is the part most people miss: The country's foreign reserves also saw a boost. As of December 11, 2025, the reserves increased to $45.44 billion, up from $44.91 billion on December 2nd, according to the CBN. This increase in reserves could provide some support for the Naira in the coming days.
