Another former LIV player reinstated to PGA Tour, but not yet eligible to compete - Golf Channel
Another former LIV Golf member is rejoining the PGA Tour, but with a twist. According to Sports Illustrated, Pat Perez has been reinstated as a PGA Tour member, but he's not yet allowed to compete in any PGA Tour-affiliated events. This is a significant development, especially considering Perez's age and recent history.
Pat Perez, turning 50 on March 1, is a seasoned golfer. His journey with LIV Golf began in June 2022, and he quickly made an impact. Perez's team, 4Aces, claimed the season-long title that year, and he consistently finished in the top four during his three-year stint with LIV. However, his performance on the PGA Tour has been less impressive, with only three top-10 finishes in that time.
The PGA Tour's Returning Member Program, announced earlier this week, offers a pathway back for players like Brooks Koepka. However, this program has a limited duration, ending on February 2, and only applies to three LIV members: Bryson DeChambeau, Jon Rahm, and Cameron Smith. Perez, unfortunately, did not meet the criteria of being a major winner since 2022.
Perez's suspension, which was set to expire in August 2026, was influenced by his involvement as an analyst for LIV Golf. This role, which the PGA Tour considers promoting unauthorized events, has restricted his participation in PGA Tour-affiliated tournaments. Despite his success on LIV, where he earned over $17 million in 34 starts, Perez's future on the PGA Tour remains uncertain.
When he is cleared, Perez will be eligible to compete on the PGA Tour Champions, a category based on career money. With over $26 million in earnings on the PGA Tour, Perez's reinstatement could be a significant development in the golf world, especially as he approaches his 50s.
